So this weekend, my son was with my parents. I took the opportunity to do a bunch of spring cleaning, except of course its fall, but fall cleaning doesn’t sound the same. Technically speaking, it’s actually still summer, but that’s not the point. So I was sweating up a storm and really working hard while I was cleaning so it got me thinking, how does this help fat burning? So I did a search and found a web site that calculates how many calories an hour you can burn while cleaning.
Now even though the site calculator takes your age, weight and height into account, I’m sure it’s not an exact science because each individual cleans at a different level. That is to say, some people put forth more physical energy, or clean harder, scrub harder than others who may just passively clean. Either way, I think it’s a cool little tool. It told me I was cleaning and burning about 160 calories an hour! That’s like 8 or so Hershey kisses! Or one and half of those 100 calorie snack packs… or just simply, 0.053 of a pound. So If I cleaned all day (which I did) then I burned off quite a bit of calories. Very cool, a whole new reason to keep your house clean!
