There was an interesting article on CNN’s health portion of their website. It was a response a doctor wrote to a guy that wanted to loose 15-20 pounds in 6 weeks. We all want quick results of course, but he wanted to know if his desire was achievable. The doctor wrote back a few interesting things.
First she said that he should aim for 2 pounds a week. I have heard this before. Two pounds a week annoys me because I want to loose the weight fast. The second interesting thing she said was that if the weight hadn’t come on fast why was he in a rush to loose it fast. This type of thing I have heard a lot, don’t be in a rush…the weight didn’t come on over night..blah blah…. Actually because it is SO easy to put on weight, the weight does often come on very fast. So I think it’s natural for people to desire and or assume that it’s possible for the weight to come off that fast.
Especially with all the products out there claiming that a person can loose weight quickly with this supplement or that supplement. We live in a very “I want it and I want it now” type of environment, so it’s almost expected that people will want to see quick results. But as I keep hearing that 2 pounds or so a week are what is expected when one is trying to loose weight, I guess I have to accept that neither myself nor anyone else is going to be dropping 25 pounds in one week….
